How to check Egg whether is Rotten or not?

You can check the freshness of egg by: 

Putting egg in a bowl of water. If it sink inside the water then it's fresh. And if egg  floats, then it's rotten one that should be discarded.

Crack an egg into a bowl of water and it floats, it's a good indicator that the egg has gone bad.

Cracking the egg  and pour in a plate. If the egg smells pungent then egg has expired.

Pour the egg in a plate and observe the white part and yolk of the egg. If they are fresh then white part don't spread much and yolk color will be dark yellow. Otherwise the egg is rotten.


Why Rotten Eggs float in water?


Rotten eggs float in water because of the difference in density between the egg and the water.
A fresh egg has a relatively dense yolk and white that sink in water, making the egg stay at the bottom of the container. However, as an egg ages and starts to spoil, the contents of the egg start to decompose, the liquid part in the egg is changes into gaseous form.

So, it's yolk and albumen are replaced with Hydrogen sulfide (a foul smelling gas). This gas which gets trapped inside the egg causes it to float. 

Along with that, the egg loses moisture over time, the air cell inside the egg grows larger, making it easier for the egg to float.

Eggs can become rotten due to the growth of bacteria inside the eggshell. The eggshell is porous, which allows air and moisture to enter, but also provides an opportunity for bacteria to enter the egg. Over time, the bacteria inside the egg will consume the egg's contents and produce gas.

Once inside the egg, bacteria begin to break down the egg's contents, producing gases and unpleasant odors. The egg's yolk and white may also change in appearance and texture, becoming runny and discolored.

  • Do not leave eggs at room temperature for long periods of time. The warmer temperature will encourage bacteria to grow and increase the likelihood of spoilage.
